Washington, DC Windshield Law
Many customers have asked me how big a crack in their windshield will pass the DC vehicle inspection law. After searching the DC motor vehicle safety site, this is the clearest thing I can find to what won't pass the DC windshield law:
1. Cracked or damaged windshield 2. Cracked or damaged side window 3. Cracked or damaged rear window 4. Non operational window controls 5. Unacceptable window or windshield tint 6. Missing or non operational windshield wipers 7. Missing or damaged windshield wiper blades
Tips on inspection:
Personal (defined as pleasure) vehicles are only required to go through DC windshield inspection every 2 years.
You must have your registration and proof of insurance to get DC inspected.
Vehicles with excessive exhaust smoke or improperly attached DC tags will be refused.
10% of DC vehicles fail, lines can be long (aren't they always?), the best time to go is between 3pm and 5pm Tuesday through Friday.
